A fascinating array of three 19th century Zeeland horse knives, each hand carved in palmwood with steel blades. From a long-standing folk tradition amongst farmers from the Zeeland province in the southwestern area of the Netherlands, these incredible knives were used as an all purpose tools to do everything from cleaning horse hooves to buttering bread. Each farmer developed his own style, whether carving a familial crest into the design, or stamping the blade with their own maker’s mark.
