18th Century Nevers Campana Orange Pot

A rare 18th century Nevers faience pot à orange of unusual form with campana handles. The bottom has drainage holes so that it may be used as a planter. Typically orange pots from this time period are bucket shaped with two handles or in the other common form of a Medici style vase with two grotesques on either side. Personally, I have never seen another orange pot with campana style handles before. These types of pots were used to hold orange trees and other citrus plants so that they could be moved from outside to inside to the orangerie during the cooler months to keep the plants warm.

Dimensions: 9” H

Condition: Good, minor wear consistent with age
