Discover this extraordinary 18th-century Arte Povera wig box adorned with figural and landscape scenes, including that of a wealthy merchant, a courtier dismounting from his horse, and a farmer surrounded by his pigs. These incredible boxes are quite rare due to the delicate nature of their paper decorations, and it is an exceptional example of their kind. Each side of the box depicts a unique scene rendered in immense detail and an array of colors. Originally used to store the wig of its owner, likely that of an aristocrat or wealthy merchant, it would happily sit on the shelves of any bon vivant or collector.
Arte Povera, also referred to as Lacca Povera, is a decorative technique that originates from mid 18th century Venice , in which wood or cardboard is lacquered with colored paper engravings to imitate the more expensive Asian lacquers.
Condition: Very good, condition consistent with age and use. Louis XVI period.
